Washington D.C. Ignition Interlock Device Costs

According to the Washington D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) website, participating in the required Ignition Interlock Device Program is required if you’ve had a first or subsequent alcohol-related offense. The IID Program requires you to obtain a restricted DC DMV driver’s license and only drive specific vehicles with IIDs installed. If you have a commercial driver’s license (CDL), you must switch to a non-commercial driver’s license (NCDL) and join the mandatory IID program.

Your license will have certain restrictions and conditions during the required program period. If you break the IID Program rules or commit another driving-related offense, this period might get longer. If you don’t join the mandatory IID program, your driver’s license will be revoked indefinitely, and all registered vehicles will be suspended. You can only reinstate your driver’s license after completing enrollment in the IID Program.
