According to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) website, if your license was suspended for a DUI offense, the court may require you to install an Ignition Interlock Device to prevent a vehicle from starting if your Breath Alcohol Content exceeds 0.05%. If the court orders you to install an Interlock Device, you will receive a notice of suspension from the MVC.

How long do I need to have an IID in New Jersey?

According to the MVC website, the amount of time you need to have an IID installed depends on the severity of your DUI offense.

First DUI: The court may order you to have an IID installed for six months to one year upon restoration of your license. If your BAC was 0.15% or higher, you are required to have an IID installed for the duration of your license suspension and for six months to one year following restoration.

Second DUI: You are required to have an IID installed for the duration of your license suspension and for one to three years following restoration.
