How do I know if I need to install an IID in Mississippi?

According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) website, you may need an Ignition Interlock Device in Mississippi if you are convicted of a DUI offense, or if you refuse to submit to a breathalyzer test when asked to do so by a police officer.

First DUI: You may be eligible to obtain an Ignition Interlock-Restricted License (IIRL) instead of having your license suspended for 120 days.
Second DUI committed within five years: You may be eligible to obtain an IIRL instead of having your license suspended for 1 year.
Third DUI committed within five years: You will be required to have an IID installed on all vehicles you drive for 3 years after you are released from incarceration.
Fourth or subsequent DUI offense: You will be required to have an IID installed on all vehicles you drive for 10 years after you are released from incarceration.

How do I apply for an Ignition Interlock-Restricted License (IIRL) in Mississippi?

Once you’ve installed an Ignition Interlock Device, you will need to take your vehicle to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety for verification that the Ignition Interlock Device has been installed. You will also need to bring the following documentation:

A completed IIRL application
Proof of payment of the IIRL fee
