Arkansas law mandates that anyone in the state who has been convicted of a DWI receive an Ignition Interlock License and install an Ignition Interlock Device on every vehicle driven by them. This includes those charged with a DWI for the first time.

How do I apply for an Interlock Restricted License in Arkansas?

According to the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) website, if you are stopped or arrested upon probable cause for an alcohol or drug related offense, the arresting law enforcement officer will give you an Official Driver’s License Receipt and take your driver’s license.

An Interlock Restricted License allows you to drive non-commercial vehicles equipped with an Ignition Interlock Device, during your suspension time for an alcohol related offense. An Interlock Restricted License is not available for a DUI Drugs related offense or 2nd or subsequent refuse test. A person must be legally in the United States in order to be eligible for an Arkansas driver’s license.

You must meet the following criteria to get an Interlock Restricted License:

Install an Ignition Interlock Device from an approved provider
Serve the suspension period mandated by the court
Pay any necessary fines
Call your insurance agent to get proof of financial accountability such as an SR-22 certificate
Complete any pending court regulations
